Dr. Sara Vakhshouri is founder and president of SVB Energy International. SVBEI is a strategic energy consulting firm based in Washington DC. She is an internationally recognized energy expert and has extensive experience in global energy market analysis, energy security, and geopolitical risk with a special focus on the Middle East, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Vakhshouri has experience working in both the public and private sectors of the Iranian energy industry from 2000 to 2008, including with the National Iranian Oil Company. Since 2009, Dr. Vakhshouri has been based in Washington, DC, where she has advised numerous energy industry leaders, high-level policymakers, international corporations, think tanks, investment banks, and law firms on global energy markets, energy geopolitics, and investment patterns. She is also Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center.
She has testified to US Congress on Energy Markets and National Security issues and published articles in numerous journals including The Economist, the Middle East Economic Survey (MEES), Market Watch and the Oil and Gas Journal. She is frequently quoted and interviewed in outlets such as Platts, Bloomberg, The Financial Times, Reuters, Market Place, The Financial Post, Energy Intelligence and Foreign Affairs, and she has appeared on BBC, CBS, Voice of America, Al Jazeera, and Al-Hurra. She authored a book entitled ‘The Marketing and Sale of Iranian Export Crude Oil since the Islamic Revolution’.
